Barrett Communication’s marine radio systems integrator, Dunstan and Associates Pty Ltd, recently completed a Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) upgrade to the Government marine radio station in Mauritius.
The upgrade provided 2 new 1000 watt transmitters, 11 new receivers and a duplicated Digital Selective Calling (DSC) system. The radio systems were supplied by Barrett Communications and the DSC system by TransOceana www.transoceana.com The majority of the equipment and a new operator console were installed in the main operations centre at Port Louis.
One of the transmitters was installed at a remote site on the other side of the Island. Dunstan and Associates Director, Glenn Dunstan, said, “This is the third GMDSS station installation we have completed using Barrett equipment – their equipment is very reliable and technical support is first class”. The receivers were installed in a rack at the control centre. 7 receivers are dedicated to DSC (6 operational and a hot spare) and 4 receivers are for radiotelephone. Mauritius Radio’s MMSI (DSC identity number) is 006452700 the station will automatically respond to DSC test calls on any of the distress and safety channels from 2-16 MHz.
