Unpacking the HF Rapid Field Deployment System

Barrett Communications’ PRC-2090 HF Rapid Field Deployment System (RFDS) is field operational within minutes for streamlined tactical field operations. It marks the ideal meeting point between an all-encompassing communications unit that is still portable and versatile for all conditions.

Designed to integrate a range of HF communications platforms, the PRC 2090 HF RFDS is also interoperable for use with external equipment. Connectable to a variety of power sources, you will never be stuck in the field. Functionality, portability and interoperability are the three pillars of Barrett’s philosophy on developing reliable communications equipment deployable on tactical operations.

”Radio has the advantage of portability, availability and versatility”

Battery Pack

In tactical field operations, you need to ensure you are equipped with the best HF communications – but this equipment will only work if it has a durable power source.

Indeed, the PRC 2090 HF RFDS boasts two alternative power sources. With an AC mains power input, users can operate their radio from mains power, guaranteeing a strong and steady electrical supply. Alternatively, this mains input can be used to power the internal battery, giving your RFDS quick charging to keep your operations moving.

A more portable power option is utilising Barrett’s built-in 12 V 33 Ah battery, complete with built-in charging from the rear mounted CTEK battery charger. This ensures you can stay on the move, and the soft disconnect of both battery and charger means that the PRC 2090 HF RFDS is entirely interoperable with external batteries and other equipment.

Transceiver & HF radio

With your communications up and running with a reliable power source, Barrett’s PRC-2090 HF 1.6 MHz – 30 MHz, 125 transceiver provides a platform for unlimited voice communication.

The 2023 Internal HF Modem offers data transmission and a link to internet email service over HF radio frequencies, while a PC connection allows for transceiver programming. Barrett’s HF radio offers quality voice communications no matter the operational distance. The Barrett 2063 Tactical Crossgate is also part of the RFDS unit and by deploying both HF and VHF receiver antennas, radio signals can be communicated from headquarters to operations far afield or nearby.

This innovative equipment is equipped with a rapid earthing capability, connected to an external earth stud pre-wired to all internal equipment, while front mounted antenna connectors aid in rapid deployment and getting your tactical communications up and running as quickly as possible.

Interoperability

The key to the success behind Barrett’s tactical HF radio equipment is our understanding of what users need in the field. Interoperability is one of the most important requirements of HF radio, with the ability to easily replace elements of the PRC 2090 HF RFDS with external equipment potentially saving lives during tactical operations.

Because of this, our equipment is designed for quick removal, with our RFDS product customisable on purchase to customer requirements. The range of charging options for the PRC 2090 HF RFDS is also indicative of our commitment to HF radio equipment that works no matter the conditions, and our offering of a 12 volt DC external socket, as well as a PC connection, gives tactical users a variety of power options.

Lastly, the unique 2063 HF-VHF Crossgate system allows for interconnection between our PRC-2090 HF transceiver and PRC-2080 VHF transceiver, making interoperability between different radio channels seamless. Users can switch between communicating over long distances with HF and communicating within line of sight using VHF. Now, your operations can stay mobile without needing to switch between equipment.
