Barrett Communications to support Jon Sanders 10th circumnavigation of the world.

Barrett supported Jon's world voyage by supplying a number of HF communication devices.

Perth Western Australia, October 17th 2016. Australian yachting legend, Jon Sanders left the port of Fremantle on Saturday with the goal of completing his 10th circumnavigation of the world.
Barrett Communications have supplied High Frequency (HF) radio equipment and technical support to assist with his long distance communications whilst at sea.

Jon holds many Guinness Book of Records titles, including the longest series of circumnavigations, completing a series of three non-stop singlehanded circumnavigations, longest distance continuously sailed by any yacht: 48,510 miles (78,070 km) and the longest period alone at sea during a continuous voyage: 419 days: 22 hours: 10 minutes.

This circumnavigation will include two formal races being The Dirk Hartog Yacht Race 2016 and the 2017 Cape Town to Rio de Janeiro Race. The Dirk Hartog Yacht Race will celebrate the 400th anniversary of the landing by Dutch voyagers on Australian shores, which commenced on 15th October 2016. The 2017 Cape Town to Rio de Janeiro Race is a 3,600 nautical mile race across the South Atlantic, starting January 2017. A crew will be supporting Jon in these two races and he will sail solo for the majority of the voyage.

Barrett Communications have supplied a Barrett 2050 HF transceiver and 911 antenna tuner, together with technical support to Jon and his team. Jon will use the HF radio for long distance communications including, yacht race schedule procedures, receiving weather reports and emergency communications if required. Jon has reported that despite being previously unfamiliar with the Barrett 2050 HF transceiver he has already found it very intuitive and easy to use in pre voyage testing and required minimal training.

Barrett has long been associated with and supported all sailing clubs in Western Australia and has previously supported other Perth yachtsman in their global circumnavigations. In February 1996, David Dicks left Fremantle and completed his voyage in 9 months to hold the title of youngest (assisted) solo circumnavigation. This record was held for 13 years, from 1996 to 2009.
